How Couples Therapy Can Make A Difference

Couples or marriage counselling can help you work through challenges like communication problems, betrayal, infidelity, or lack of intimacy. It gives you the tools to better understand each other’s needs and rebuild your connection. With a therapist’s support, you can address tough topics such as finances, different parenting styles, family stress, and compulsive sexual behaviours, finding ways to resolve conflicts and strengthening your relationship.

Therapy creates a safe space to break negative patterns, like constant fighting or emotional distance. It helps you rebuild trust, improve communication, and restore intimacy so you can move forward together.

By learning new skills to cope with challenges and communicate better, you can create stronger relationships and reconnect, even after difficult times.

Techniques We Use In Couples Therapy

Our therapists take the time to understand your unique relationship challenges and identify the underlying issues. We use evidence-based methods to provide clear, honest guidance and help you rebuild trust, improve communication, and create healthier patterns. Some of the techniques we use in therapy include:

Happy couple having conversation while drinking coffee sitting in cozy coffeehouse.
Talk Therapy
Traditional talk therapy forms the core of our work, providing a safe, non-judgmental space for you and your partner to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. By openly discussing your challenges, fears, and triggers with a therapist, you can gain a deeper understanding of the underlying issues in your relationship and work towards healing and meaningful change.
This approach centres on finding practical solutions to the challenges you and your partner are facing. Rather than dwelling on past mistakes or things that can’t be changed, we focus on what’s working, what you can do differently, and the steps you can take to move forward. It empowers you to set clear, actionable goals and build a stronger, more fulfilling future together with confidence and clarity.
The Gottman Method helps improve your relationship by teaching you and your partner practical ways to communicate better, handle disagreements, and build trust. Using proven strategies, you and your partner can strengthen your connection, resolve issues, and create a healthier, more lasting relationship.
CBT is an effective, evidence-based approach that helps you and your partner identify and change negative thought patterns that affect your relationship. By challenging unhelpful thoughts and replacing them with healthier beliefs, you can break destructive cycles and create lasting change. CBT teaches you better coping strategies, helps you manage triggers, and empowers you to regain control and improve your relationship.

Your journey to a stronger relationship starts today.

Why Work With
Turning Point Counselling

We love what we do, we love how we do it, and we love who we do it for.

“Speaking the truth can sometimes hurt, but it’s the fastest path to healing.”

At Turning Point Counselling, we’re not just therapists—we’re passionate guides here to help you transform your life by speaking to the truth of what’s happening to you. Whether you’re a couple struggling to reconnect, or an individual dealing with stress, anxiety, anger, or compulsive behaviours, we’re here to help. We tackle the tough stuff—the issues that have been holding you back.

As the founder of this clinic, my own breakthrough in therapy inspired me to become a therapist. That moment of clarity showed me I was meant to do this for the rest of my life.

Our team believes that no problem is too big to solve and that there’s always a way forward. With over 15 years of combined experience, we offer solution-focused therapy that gets results. We believe in finding the right approach for the right person at the right time to create lasting change.

Are you ready for your turning point? Let’s find your path forward together.

At Turning Point Counselling, we focus on what matters most:

Compassion

Sometimes, all we need is someone to listen without judgment and accept us as we are. This can create a safe space for healing and growth.

Love

Feeling connected, understood, and cared for nourishes our spirit. Being seen and heard strengthens us, and these are ways we show love to ourselves and others.

Integrity

We are committed to honesty and integrity in all we do. Our goal is to help clients find their true selves and embrace their personal power.

Our Approach

How Our Couples Therapy Works

At Turning Point Counselling, we listen to your story, encourage open communication, and work together to create a plan for healing.

We see you as a couple first. Understanding your history and struggles is the first step toward healing. We want to hear your story and identify the underlying patterns affecting your relationship. To gain a clearer picture, we may use simple assessments, but we keep it focused on your needs and goals.

We’ll complete one individual session with each person to better understand your perspectives and goals. Together, we’ll create a flexible plan tailored to your needs. Initially, sessions are weekly or bi-weekly, with frequency reduced as you gain confidence and control in your relationship.

After the initial individual sessions, we meet as a couple for the rest of the sessions. We adjust your plan as you progress, using the skills we develop together. Session frequency is flexible to fit your schedule and budget, with results reflecting the effort you put in.

Questions About Couples Therapy

There are many reasons couples seek therapy. You might feel “stuck” with the same issues repeating in your relationship. Perhaps you’ve “drifted apart” and no longer feel the same connection. Or, a major event like addiction, infidelity, or betrayal may have happened, and you need help moving past the trauma.

In therapy, you both have a neutral space where you can each be heard equally and have the chance to express yourselves. Our therapists are trained to help you identify the roadblocks to better communication and intimacy and guide you in moving past them.

It depends on the issue. For a specific problem, you may make significant progress in 2-3 sessions. For more complex or long-standing issues, it may take 6-12 sessions, or more, to see the changes you want.

Yes, couples therapy can be very helpful in addressing betrayal or compulsive sexual behaviours. Our therapists create a safe space to explore the impact of these issues on your relationship. We help you rebuild trust, improve communication, and address the underlying causes of these behaviours. While healing from betrayal or compulsive sexual behaviours takes time, therapy provides the tools and support needed to rebuild your connection and move forward together.

Yes, absolutely! Before ending a relationship, it’s important to take time to reflect on your thoughts and feelings, especially if children are involved. Our therapists won’t tell you whether to stay or leave (unless there’s physical abuse and your safety is at risk), but we will help you carefully consider the issues before making a life-changing decision.
