How Art & Play Therapy Can Make A Difference
Art & Play Therapy is more than painting or drawing. It’s about using creativity to support emotional expression, self-awareness, and healing. This form of Art & Play Therapy in Peterborough allows you to explore complex emotions, trauma, and life challenges without relying solely on words.
Whether you or your child, or your teen is dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma or life transitions, Art & Play Therapy in Peterborough helps by:
- Improving emotional regulation and resilience

Techniques We Use In Art &Play Therapy
Our approach blend traditional therapeutic tools with creative expression. You, your teen, or child, do not need to have any artistic experience, just a willingness to explore. Some of the creative tools we may use to help you in sessions are:
Drawing, Painting, & Collage
These hands-on tools offer a powerful way to explore and express thoughts and emotions that can be hard to put into words. Through creative expression, you can uncover hidden feelings, reflect on past experiences, and gain insight into your inner world—all within a safe, supportive space
Storytelling & Symbolism
Using narrative and imagery helps you process experiences meaningfully. By creating personal stories or interpreting symbolic elements, you can make sense of your emotions, build self-understanding, and explore how your past influences your present.
Somatic Techniques That Connect Movement & Sensation
Somatic techniques bring attention to the body as a key part of healing. Through gentle movement and awareness of physical sensations, you can release stored emotions, deepen the mind-body connection, and build emotional regulation skills.
Music, Rhythm, or Sound
Whether you’re listening, creating, or simply feeling the beat, engaging with music and sound can help soothe the nervous system, improve mood, and express feelings that are difficult to articulate. It’s a powerful tool for emotional processing and connection.
Visualization & Guided Imagery
This approach taps into your imagination to explore emotions, envision desired outcomes, and develop inner calm. By creating mental images, you can reduce anxiety, shift perspective, and support healing in a creative and non-verbal way.
Mindfulness & Body Awareness Practices
These practices encourage you to slow down, tune into your body, and notice your thoughts without judgement. By building awareness of your internal experience, you can increase emotional regulation, manage stress, and stay grounded in the present moment.

Why Work With
Turning Point Counselling
We love what we do, we love how we do it, and we love who we do it for.
“Speaking the truth can sometimes hurt, but it’s the fastest path to healing.”
At Turning Point Counselling, we’re not just therapists—we’re passionate guides here to help you transform your life by speaking to the truth of what’s happening to you. Whether you’re a couple struggling to reconnect, or an individual dealing with stress, anxiety, anger, or compulsive behaviours, we’re here to help. We tackle the tough stuff—the issues that have been holding you back.
As the founder of this clinic, my own breakthrough in therapy inspired me to become a therapist. That moment of clarity showed me I was meant to do this for the rest of my life.
Our team believes that no problem is too big to solve and that there’s always a way forward. With over 15 years of combined experience, we offer solution-focused therapy that gets results. We believe in finding the right approach for the right person at the right time to create lasting change.
Are you ready for your turning point? Let’s find your path forward together.

At Turning Point Counselling, we focus on what matters most:
Compassion
Sometimes, all we need is someone to listen without judgment and accept us as we are. This can create a safe space for healing and growth.
Love
Feeling connected, understood, and cared for nourishes our spirit. Being seen and heard strengthens us, and these are ways we show love to ourselves and others.
Integrity
We are committed to honesty and integrity in all we do. Our goal is to help clients find their true selves and embrace their personal power.

Our Approach
How our Creative Art & Play Therapy Works
At Turning Point Counselling, we guide you through a creative and supportive process that encourages emotional expression, personal insight, and lasting healing.
We get to know you through your story & creativity
We begin by hearing your story through words, images, or movement. Your experiences, emotions, and challenges help shape our understanding of what you need. We may gently introduce creative tools to support this process, all while keeping the focus on your comfort, strengths, and goals.
We create a personalized plan for creative exploration
Together, we’ll build a plan that reflects your unique needs. This may include identifying emotions, physical sensations, or patterns that arise during sessions. Through creative techniques, we explore triggers, boundaries, and past experiences, supporting emotional processing and resilience.
We help you move forward with insight & confidence
As you grow in self-awareness, you’ll gain new tools to support emotional regulation and well-being. Art & Play Therapy in Peterborough helps you strengthen your connection to yourself and others, reframe your narrative, and move forward with clarity, confidence, and creative coping strategies.
