Taking the "weird" out of therapy...

If you have never been to counselling before, it may seem strange or mysterious. Some people are nervous and don't know what to expect, or they are afraid that they are wasting their time or it won't work. Here are a few things to keep in mind when you come for your appointment:

Your information is treated with utmost confidentiality. The limits of your confidentiality will be discussed in the first session.

The sessions take place in a comfortable, private office when you are free to share and be heard. It is a non-judgemental and respectful atmosphere.

You will not be forced to discuss anything you don't want to. As the client, you are able to ask for what you need and state what YOUR goals are and the issues you want help with. No one will be forcing any kind of agenda on you.

Sessions are 55-60 minutes long. Longer sessions can be arranged if necessary.

Payment is due at the end of the session. We accept cash, cheque and credit card. We do not accept debit. A receipt will be issued if you require one. Your receipt may be submitted to your benefits provider if you have coverage. Please check into that prior to coming for your first session.

The more you put into your sessions and engage with the process, the more benefits you will reap. An open mind and willingness to see things in a different light is necessary for growth and change.

Give it time. Some issues may be fairly simple and can be resolved in a few sessions. Others are more deeply rooted and can take much longer to resolve. Be patient with yourself and the process.
